DIY 3D Printer Enclosure
After trying to print a model car from thingiverse I quickly discovered how difficult printing with ABS plastic really is. No matter what you read about printing with ABS you not only need a flat heated bed but you also need to keep the ambient temperature stable and warm. I wanted to keep this cheap and had already dedicated a shelf in my garage for the printer so I figured a few pieces of plastic-like cardboard and acrylic doors would do the job.
I bought all the stuff at Bunnings Warehouse and used a hand jigsaw to cut the doors. I cut the cardboard to size and stuck it to the frame of the shelf using gaffa tape. To attach the door hinges without damaging the shelf I used small blocks of wood and self-tapping hex screws. This gave a surface to attach the hinges too. It’s a bit too flexible when opening/closing the doors but it does the job. Lastly I attached some handles with some small bolts and nuts.
